Dubai Hills Villa 13 – Dubai
Project Overview
CDE Engineering Services was engaged by SPD Interior & Landscaping Contracting to carry out a structural assessment and develop strengthening design solutions for an existing villa located in Dubai Hills.
The project involved evaluating the impact of proposed architectural modifications, including the addition of a new steel roof structure and changes at basement and roof levels, on the existing structural system.
Client
SPD Interior & Landscaping Contracting
Location
Dubai, UAE
Client Challenge
The client planned multiple architectural modifications, including the addition of new structural elements such as a steel roof, jacuzzi, and technical rooms.
These changes introduced additional loads and required careful assessment to ensure that the existing structural system, including slabs and foundations, could safely accommodate the modifications without compromising stability.
Scope of Work
Our Approach
CDE carried out a detailed structural evaluation combining review of existing drawings and analytical modelling.
The assessment focused on understanding the interaction between existing structural elements and proposed modifications. Structural analysis was performed to evaluate load transfer mechanisms and identify areas requiring strengthening.
Design solutions were developed to ensure compatibility between new and existing structural systems while maintaining overall structural integrity.
Key Findings
The introduction of a new steel roof and additional architectural elements significantly increased loading on the existing structure.
Critical areas identified included slab sections subjected to punching shear, beams affected by demolition and modification works, and zones requiring additional support for new structural elements.
The existing structure required localized strengthening to safely accommodate the proposed changes.
Solutions & Recommendations
CDE developed a comprehensive strengthening design to integrate new architectural features while maintaining structural integrity.
Strengthening measures included reinforcement of slabs to resist punching shear, strengthening of beams affected by modifications, and introduction of new beams and supports where required.
Additional structural provisions were made to support new elements such as steel columns, staircase openings, and cantilever projections.
The design ensured safe load transfer and compatibility between new and existing structural components.
Outcome
The project enabled seamless integration of architectural modifications without compromising structural safety.
Through detailed analysis and tailored strengthening design, CDE ensured that the villa could accommodate additional loads and functional enhancements while maintaining structural performance and reliability.
